Does anyone think that this series should be turned into a movie? I think it would work if it were animated. Live action would have to be on the Sci Fi network as a mini series or something. They'd have to do a heck of alot of cutting though.

Re: A movie or an animated series
Sun, January 25, 2004 - 11:42 PMOne of the major networks, I forget which at the moment, purchased the first-refusal rights to any film version of _Eye_of_the_World_ a few years back with the supposed intent of developing a miniseries. I suspect that the reason that it has been indefinitely tabled is the same as the reason we're debating these books. If the man needs 800 pages to describe each 1/2 week henceforth, they will never have the opportunity to do anything with the story. I think they want to know that the story has an end of some kind before pouring ridiculous amounts of money into filming it. -

Re: A movie or an animated series
Tue, January 27, 2004 - 6:19 PMIt's unfortunate that this guy has written such a great fantasy epic. I want to say he's a terrible writer, but I'm impressed with the story at the same time. When something really cool happens in the story I get goose bumps. That's how good he can be. But we all know how bad he can be too.

Re: A movie or an animated series
Sat, March 6, 2004 - 12:42 PMI pray to the gods of film to never allow such a movie or miniseries be produced. I remember so many of Stephen King's books being turned into absolutely terrible movies. I read The Stand shortly before they began filming it. I could not believe that a TV miniseries could pull it off. The Stand was like just over 1000 pages (the version I read) and the miniseries took up 8 hours of time over 8 weeks. I realyl don't think they can pull it off with Jordan. Not even with the budget for LOTR. I have come to be protective of RJ's characters and would hate to have some actor put a face to characters I have been able to build in my sizable head. Animation could be interesting, but once again, it would require so much luck to work. I say, leave it alone, they're good books and there is no need to screw this situation up more by including producers/directors/actors etc. Oh, and they story isn't over and most audiences cannot handle movies without a wrapped up conclusion presented to them on a silver platter.

Re: A movie or an animated series
Fri, April 23, 2004 - 5:14 AMHi. Sorry for chiming in late on this topic, but it actually is something I was discussing with some friends the other night.
With the success of the Harry Potter films and the acclaim that was given to Lord of the Rings (especially winning 'Best Picture' for RotK) I think we're going to see a lot of Hollywood Investors re-thinking their position and looking at "Fantasy" movies in a more favorable light.
I don't think they'd be able to do WoT proper justice though. Maybe as you mentioned, as animation... SciFi channel didn't do TOO bad a job with 'Dune' and 'Children of Dune' (I said they didn't do TOO bad a job, I didn't praise it as dead on accurate) maybe they could do justice. But there's an awful lot of detail to put into a movie... -

Sun, April 25, 2004 - 12:43 PMMaybe an animated series, then. I could actually see enjoying that. -

Mon, April 26, 2004 - 5:04 AMYeah, I could get into an animated movie. Or maybe a series? Hmmmm... Maybe THAT could play off decently.

Re: A movie or an animated series
Wed, April 28, 2004 - 6:52 PMI'm like some others. I'm afraid it's just far too detailed to be done right in tv/movie/cartoon format. -

Re: A movie or an animated series
Fri, July 9, 2004 - 12:26 PMI think they could make a pretty decent movie just out of the first book. That way they wouldn't have to continue on and n and on about all the nothingness that has happened so far in his 800 page books. God, I'm afraid to pick up the most recent one, its been sitting on my bookshelf collecting dust for fear that it goes absolutely nowhere. I can't even remember what happened in the previous books. -

Tue, July 13, 2004 - 4:43 PMBook 10 is nothing but buildup for book 11.
The prequel, however, was refreshing.

Thu, July 29, 2004 - 2:07 PMIt does go nowhere... you could skip it and miss nothing... it was all covered in book nine...
