New Spring

After the issues mentioned in other posts, I too roll my eyes at the meandering junkyard of plots and characters in the advancing book series.
Thus... this prequel is a breath of fresh air. So far I'm enjoying the pace, with Jordans classic descriptions in good balance.
Plus, I am tickled to have Moiraine back in the land of living again.
(I have a soft spot for Siuan as well) These two dominate these early chapters, but I don't mind... Jordan lets us feel that innocent excitement that small-time people feel in the face of big-time events.
Plus the Aiel appearance so far is more like a bad-ass cool cameo.
They always know what's going on (some of them anyway)

I'll enjoy this little book, even if he doesn't wrap up anything for a few books... He has to dovetail it into book one eventually (doesn't he?)

Not if it follows the plot of the short story version of New Spring published a few years ago.

I enjoyed New Spring. It really fleshed out both Morraine and Siuann's characters for me as well as explaining the bond between them that was so often touched on... and I was absolutely delighted to have Morraine back... she's by far my favorite character... I do wish that Jordan would bring the series to some sort of conclusion... the last installment made me feel the plot has totally gotten away from him and that he is just treading water right now...

I wonder if it really has, I can't imagine how he keeps track. It makes you wonder if after so long RJ is tired of his own story. I have always wondered if he keeps charts on character connections or something. Or, if he has some kind of layout of each of their personalities and quirks. I'm amazed and yet frustrated about it all. New Spring was a great break from the rest, I only hope he wrote it to reconnect himself and/or his readers to the story.

I always imagined a room with a huge character tree drawn on all the walls, with color-coded index cards or something.

He would have to have some sort of system in place, because no author writing on such a scale could do without it in my oppinion. In my writing experience, it helps to have some sort of system in place to keep track of what's going, else you'd forget where the story is supposed to go.

I saw the books, there's also a series out which follows Hunters of the Horn. The Great Hunt is what the series is called. I haven't even finished the last one in the Wheel of Time yet. It's taking me forever.

The Great Hunt is the name of book 2. To what are you referring?

I'd heard that in some other countries (the UK maybe?) they had divided the first couple of books into two separate parts each for younger readers. Maybe this is what he is talking about?

Yes, the two-part books are indeed all over US bookstores (in the kids section) I have only picked up the first one, called "From the Two Rivers"
which has an excellent new Pre-Prologue before the original one.
Do you remember first reading that trippy Prologue scene with all the destruction and the laughing vengeful dark guy who smites Lewis Therin?
You have no idea what you are reading at the time... eh? This Pre-prologue sets up the story just a bit more for young/first time readers.
It's set in Two Rivers when the main characters are young kids.

I am wondering of all the other mini-books have any new material in them.
So far they have split up the first two books into 4 books with new titles
and new artwork. I must confess.... I have never been too excited about any of the artwork on these books. I suppose EOTW is the one I dislike the least.
New Spring is alright too. The others make the characters look too different from the images I want to have myself.

Ah yes, the reprints for younger readers. I think it's a great idea, because so many people are intimidated by the thickness of his books.
